Why actually do Salt & Pepper go together?
Salt is a mineral and pepper is the common name for edible salt and ground black pepper, while salt is a mineral and black pepper is a spice. These two food condiments or seasonings are usually used during food preparation or cooking, and traditionally placed on dining tables to allow for the additional seasoning of food after its preparation, during the meal.
Salt and Pepper are typically placed on tables as a pair, maintained in separate shakers, which habit dates back to seventeenth-century French cuisine. It is considered stylish to own a matched set. Salt and Pepper can be mixed in the kitchen though, to be used during food preparation.
In Hungary, paprika often replaces pepper on the dining table, while in the Spanish Basque cuisine, Espelette pepper is frequently used instead of black pepper.
What is a Salt and pepper Set called?
Call them simply Salt and pepper shakers or salt and pepper pots! In British English, you can also call the Salt shaker a Salt cellar or Salt Mill. Both seasonings can be offered at the table by use of a salt respectively of a pepper grinder. By the way, both shakers or grinders are sometimes held in a cruet-stand. They can be made from a variety of materials, including plastic, glass, ceramic or metal (for example silver 925). Whatever style you prefer, you can find what fits your personality best.
Which goes on the right: Salt or Pepper?
According common dining atiquette and general table setting guidelines the salt shaker is placed closer to the right hand, to the right of the pepper shaker. Reasons are that for one more people use salt than pepper, and for the other, most people are right-handed. The pepper shaker stands to the left of the salt shaker, and for added esthetiquecal definition it should angled slightly above the salt shaker.
Are Salt and Pepper considered lucky or unlucky?
Tipping a salt shaker over, aka spilling salt: very unlucky, at least according certain superstitions. There are a few explanations about why spilled salt is bad luck, the most known is, that at the Last Supper Judas Iscariot has knocked over the salt with his elbow, betraying Jesus Christ, therefore people began associating salt with lies and disloyalty. At least that is what Leonardo da Vinci’s painting The Last Supper suggests.
Well pilling salt is bad luck but don’t worry: throwing a pinch over your shoulder reverses the devil, who was waiting there to force you into bad behavior. By throwing a bit of salt over your left shoulder you can blind the devil, at least that’s what some people say.
Also, salt is used to repel ghosts and demons, which belief originates from Buddhism and Shintoism. Therefore in many Asian countries salt is used to purify or sanctify a place, and explicitely to ward off evil spirits. To be honest, as for salt being a natural cleanser to be used to scour out pots, even as toothpaste or to remove rust, there’s no big leap from natural to supernatural cleansing. Even in Western countries salt lamps are used for more welcoming and balanced athmosphere.
On the other side, if you spill pepper, or even if you just hand it to your friend, fate will bring you into a passionate argument with each other. Why? No one really knows, but rumor says it’s because you are already distracted over a serious topic and you will want to speak about it to your firend, asking him for solutions.
Who or what is Salt’N’Pepa?

Salt-N-Pepa/Salt ‘N’ Pepa/Salt ‘N Pepa is an American hip-hop girl group formed in 1985.
